About Dr. Hamon
Dr. Gregory A. Hamon MD, FACS, RVT is a board certified general and vascular surgeon. He was born in Austin, Texas and grew up right here in San Antonio. He attended Roosevelt High School and went to Trinity University. He went to medical school at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas, which is notable for caring for Pres. John F Kennedy, the Nobel laureates Brown and Goldstein who determined the importance of cholesterol in heart disease, and for giving a liver transplant to Mickey Mantle.
His internship was performed at Columbia University 's St Luke/Roosevelt Medical Center in Manhattan which is known for the care given to John Lennon and the first Appendectomy performed in the United States. Afterwards, he went to California and was a research fellow in Surgical Immunology and Wound Healing at the University of California, San Francisco. He finished his surgical training at the University of California, San Diego in 1999. He then learned vascular surgery and trained under Dr. Julius Babb III who attended Baylor University and himself trained with Dr. Stan Crawford (considered one of the fathers of vascular surgery).
Dr. Hamon's interest in veins was kindled during residency when one of his professors, Dr. John Bergan, began several studies looking into new and unique treatments for vein disorders. Dr. Hamon has remained in contact with Dr. Bergan over the years and has decided on following in the footstep of his old professor.
Dr. Hamon currently holds active member status with the American College of Phlebology. He then set up practice in Northern California in the wine country of Sonoma County (Santa Rosa) and practiced there for 7 years. He was called to serve his country in both 2003 and 2007. After which, he decided to relocate back to family and returned to San Antonio in late 2007. Bringing with him the latest techniques in the treatment of veins. He is very happy to be home among friends and family.
